Today is an odd day.A terrorist attack of this scale on the US was not expected by most of us. It only goes to show the laws of interconnectedness and cause and effect. The lives of all people no matter where they may live are in no way isolated. Those who think that they can claim noninvolvement in politics or social matters are only fooling themselves. The actions of others can directly affect the lives of thousands and indirectly even more. We as members of a global society must realize that our choices directly affect lives all over the world that the food we eat or clothes we buy are produced at the expense of lives and quality of life the world over. I can only hope that the actions witnessed today will not just be a tragic event followed by hate, but rather some good may come from this. We can all learn from this that oppression and hatred can not lead to any good but only more suffering and eventually all the suffering we cause others will come back to haunt us. Today as I burn incense and take refuge I can only hope that the people of this land do not continue upon the path they have been treading for so long. That prejudice will not continue to over take the minds of people that fighting our neighbors based on the color of their skin or what religion they may practice will not break out in the streets of this nation. The actions taken by those individuals today were not Islamic actions they were only the actions of a few people. The Islamic faith has guided and lead many great souls for around fifteen hundred years. To deem any atrocity as merely Islamic is a disservice to all who practice any form of faith. The followers of Islam are mothers and father, sons and daughter they want freedom, as do we all. They suffer, as do we all. And they deserve our respect as fellow beings who share this earth, our home.
